Latest edition of Gender Equality Index has been released by the end of last month. Sadly, while is shows some progress towards higher gender equality in EU, it also shows that it is verry slow: the average index for the EU is now 68.6 (on a scale of 0-100), an increase of just 5.5 points since 2010. Also, for the first time since 2010, Gender Equality Index shows a decline in several core areas, including work and knowledge.
The Gender Equality Index was created by the European Institute for Gender Equality to monitor overall gender equality issues among EU member states. Each country's score is made up of the results of an assessment of gender equality issues in six core areas - work, money, time, power and health - and in two additional areas - intersecting inequalities and violence.
